CEDAR SIDING BOARD and BATTEN
Cedar-Siding Board and Batten is a nice look...use a natural
stain to keep it
fresh
board and batten wall
BOARD-BATTEN at open soffit
at window
with closed soffit
When doing BOARD-BATTEN
start by reading moisture
barrier for cedar-siding
BOARD-BATTEN are
applied to the rain screen strips.. so these strips must
be centred on the width of the boards
with a 7 mm gap... nail every 600 (TWENTYFOUR inches) along
both
edges of board
then cover with batten and centre nail batten about every 400 note board goes up over
top plate ...then the trim is placed across top... this trim carries
the closed soffit ..the board
is tucked tight against window and door jambs then trimmed over top .
BOARD-BATTEN must be nailed through securely to the
sheathing
go with at least 1/2" plywood, maybe 5/8" sheathing
plywood... I
myself go with a 2x2 back framing nailed horizontally at 600 (24")
centres.. I use a double dipped galvi nail so there is no black stain
around nail due to weather
2x2 back framing for nailing off board and batten
