Door framing numbers

-clearance under an exterior door 3

-clearance head jamb and door 2

-passage set interior door 900 to 1015

-passage set exterior 910

-door rough opening exterior door 75 wider top and 50 side then actual door size

-rough opening  interior door 50 wider then actual door size

-exterior casing galvanized nailed at 400

-studs are blocked at lock set height two stud width spaces each side of door

-lock set 25 mm minimum throw

-screws must penetrate 25

- screws for metal frames 12

-outward swing non-removable pins

-Steel -solid core -hollow core -panel -french - flush -bi fold -pocket -sliding

Look for -energy efficiency with thermal breaks, insulated, seals

- fire rated steel -exterior door must be at least 45 thick

Installing

-solid blocking at height of lock  for two stud bays in both directions

locks must have 25 mm throw with beveled cylinder housing

strike plate screws (wood) must embed 25  mm (steel 12)

-inactive leaf of a double door must have bolts top and bottom with 25 mm throw

-screws for hinges wood 25 for steel 12 into door

-exterior door hinge 180 from top 280 from bottom and one centred between first two

-door hinge gain should be 2 deeper than gain in frame

- lockset side edge of door should be beveled on the stop side

-on frame side screws must pass through outer case .. void. and 25 into rough frame (mullion 25)

-outward swinging doors pins must be immovable

-main entrance door must have a viewer

Interior types

Build interior door jamb

-check wood stock material ensure it is straight use jointer to straighten if necessary

-rip stock to proper thickness about 1  mm larger than wall thickness allow enough material to use jointer to smooth saw cut

-any bow should be towards rough frame

-lay out and rabbet the sides to receive the head jamb about 6 mm deep

-select door to be hung

cut side jambs length equal to door with 2 mm for above door plus thickness of finished floor plus 25 for clearance under door measure head jamb same width as door plus 2  mm clearance for each side plus 6 mm  rabbet for side jambs each side

-sand exposed pieces  do not sand edges to go in rabbet

-nail sides and head together

-nail a temporary brace across bottom

-select material for door stop cut to length

-check rough opening ensure plumb and square

-set assembled door jamb into place wedge at head to hold temporarily

-check head for level shim bottom of side jamb to level

- measure shimmed distance take jamb out and cut shimmed distance off of opposite side jamb

-reinstall centre head jamb, plumb, level, straight, square, use wedges from opposite sides of jamb, nail the wedges leave nail heads exposed in case adjustment is needed
